Creating hair bows, changing the light in the oven, crocheting scarves for the homeless, updating a bathroom faucet, capturing a hermit crab on the loose in my house, and cooking a restaurant-quality steak—these are skills I learned to do by watching a DIY TV shows or online videos. We have become a nation of do-it-yourselfers, and more and more people are being motivated to tackle major updates and repairs without calling a trained professional. Whether you’re trying to install a water heater or change the dome lights of your car, it’s very likely someone has created an online video showing you exactly what to do.
It feels good to be able to fix something on your own. Even if it took you four times longer than the professional. But we can’t fix everything. No matter how hard we try or how many videos we watch, humanity cannot fix the sin problem that separates us from God. Only one Person was able to accomplish this. The Crucifixion is a reminder that forgiveness of our sins is possible because of the sacrifice of Jesus.
